Genetic Art 2 Gallery
Explanation Each of the images on this page are generated from a mathematical formula. For example, the polished metallic image (ga231.jpg) is created using the formula arctan((y)+y-sin(y)+arctan(pi)+tan(x*y)/sin(x)). The screen is divided into coordinates from -5 to +5 on both axiis. Each pixel coordinate is then fed into the current formula. Once all the pixel coordinate formulas are evaluated they are scaled down to between 0 and 255. The scaled values are used as an index to a 256 color palette. Genetic art involves mutating the formulas controlling the images. The human user selects which image is the most aesthetically pleasing and then the software mutates the formula to create a new set of slightly different images. The process can be repeated until a desirable image is found. This process is also known as "evolutionary art" and "generative art". |
